For 12 years, Miriam’s House has provided a warm place of support for homeless women with HIV facing the double burden of serious illness and destitute circumstances. Women near the end of their lives are able to die with dignity; others are empowered to live with improved health, self-sufficiency and hope. Although the caregivers have a limited staff and minimal budget, they work to provide each woman with a roof over their heads -- and a place to call home. |
WINNERS' WORDS:
“Women with HIV often have addictions and mental health problems, and they’re often set aside by society. But many of the women we help are amazing – strong, beautiful, an inspiration. My husband, Tim Fretz – he’s the Development Director – and I live there, so we’re able to give that sense of community. When they see themselves as a child of God, they allow themselves to trust.”
